In this chapter, we will provide the basic knowledge necessary to understand the seismic hazard map.
We will first explain earthquake and seismic ground motion, the types of earthquakes and classification of earthquakes. Next, we will explain the definitions, examples and characteristics of the seismic hazard maps: "Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Maps" and "Seismic Hazard Maps for Specified Seismic Source Faults."
