Of the wide variety of earthquakes, only a fraction offers enough information to specify the seismic source fault. Many other earthquakes with no such information can cause strong seismic ground motions. The "Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Maps" show the relationship among the intensity, time period, and probability at each point.
