2.2 Types of earthquakes

There are various types of earthquakes, such as earthquakes on the plate boundary, earthquakes within subducting (or subducted) plates, and earthquakes occurring on active faults on land.

Modeling various types of earthquakes is required to prepare a seismic hazard map. It is necessary to make use of much knowledge on:
* Plate tectonics
* Historical earthquake
* Active fault
* Seismic geological structure
* Micro-earthquakes
* Crustal movement
* Subsurface structure
